I like to wear hats… and all kinds of people stop and admire my favourite felt hat. That gave me the idea of how I could raise funds for my friend Jane who is fighting kidney cancer.
Joan Leach, a Dunedin designer, generously agreed to help me. Joan is well known for her great tailoring skills and has created 40 limited edition hats. Each hat has an individual touch of unique colourful lining from classy fabric samples. Global Fabrics in Christchurch gave a generous discount on the 100% wool fabric and if we sell every hat we will make $2000 for Jane.
Hats for Jane is a limited edition available in red, dark chocolate and black. Price $70.
Proceeds from the hats will go towards the purchase of regular supplies of fresh fruit and vegetables to keep Jane in tip top health. More information on Jane can be found on www.JaneWebDesign.co.nz.
For further information call Jeannie Hayden 03 4780610 or 021 478061 or email at walkthetalk@clear.net.nz
Friends and family of Jane’s have organized an online auction to raise funds for further cancer treatments made possible by the donations of businesses, artists and many other talented creative people.
Watch out for it. It will be launched on 9 April 2010 at www.JaneWebDesign.co.nz
My sister Kerry Mackay has also produced 19 individual handmade flower brooches that can adorn your hat, jacket or bag. Price $20 each.
These colourful brooches are described by creator Kerry Mackay as "hand drawn flowers with a needle and thread". As with the hats all proceeds will go to towards the purchase of healthy organic food to keep Jane in tip top health.

Kerry has created 19 limited edition brooches (average diameter is 8 cm), to specify the brooch of your choice select the number alongside and email Jeannie your choice at walkthetalk@clear.net.nz.
